Art Therapy

Creativity is essential to our mental health.  If you’re already creative and producing art, why not use it to take care of yourself?

 

In this program we will learn through our art:

  • How to heal from our past difficulties

  • How to problem solve our current problems

  • How to reconnect with others through our art

  • How to see beauty in the ugly

  • How to empower the things we value

  • How to strengthen our creativity


Participants provide their own art supplies.  We will be focusing on drawing/painting for our homework.  All participants are encouraged to utilize their own preferred style of creativity from wordsmith to repurposing rubbish.

We will meet for a minimum of 4 sessions.  We may also have special guests to provide creative tips.  No need to share your personal issues.  We accept most medical insurance.  Turn your art into therapy.

 

Gardening Therapy

Food is expensive in Hawaii!  But Food from our garden is not only cheaper but also healthier.


What we learn:

  • We are going to learn to listen to our garden to discover its needs

  • We are going to learn how to problem solve

  • We are going to learn how to build trust in our gardening instincts

  • We are going to learn how to empower the intent of our garden

  • We will learn how to use these same gardening tools to care for your mental health


We will have guest speakers to speak about traditional Polynesian agriculture and gardening techniques.  No need to share your personal problem(s).  Participants provide their own gardening space and supplies. This can be a new garden or an established one.  Gardens can be for growing food, medicine, beauty or all of the above.  We will meet for a minimum of 6 times as a group.  Most medical insurances are accepted.  

Addiction Therapy

Alcohol and drug abuse can be a lifelong challenge.  Why not make it easier on yourself and learn some lifelong tools to help?

​

  • Learn how to identify triggers for alcohol/drug use.

  • Learn how to curb cravings

  • Learn how to let go of difficult emotions like anger, jealousy, and hurt

  • Learn how to change bad habits

  • Learn how to heal from difficulties in your past

  • Learn how to blow past stubborn barriers in your life


We will be meeting for a minimum of 3 sessions as a group.  Participants do not have to share their personal issues.  We will have a special guest to speak on Polynesian traditions with life difficulties.  We accept most medical insurance.  

Malama 'Aina Therapy

Participants will be caring for a small piece of land in need of some love and attention.  This land will be your personal responsibility.  We will be learning:

​

  • How to reconnect with the land

  • How to identify the land’s needs

  • How to problem solve

  • How to heal sick areas

  • How to empower your work into the future

  • How to trust your personal instincts in your care


These same tools will help us care for your mental health.  We will be meeting for a minimum of 4 times as a group.  No need to share personal problems.  Participants must have legal permission to work the land they have chosen to care for.  Participants provide all needed supplies.  We will be inviting special guests to discuss traditional Polynesian techniques.  Most medical insurances accepted.

Body Image Therapy

Do you love how you look?  If the answer is ‘no,’ this will have a massive negative impact on your mental health.  In this program, we will learn:

​

  • How to accept who you genuinely are

  • How to love who you are

  • How to let go of hurtful comments

  • How to curb eating to comfort difficult emotions

  • How to see and build on the beauty that is already there.


We will be meeting as a group for a minimum of 2 sessions.  Under-eating and over-eating issues will be addressed.  Like all programs, a guest speaker may come to speak on traditional Polynesian values or nutrition regarding this topic.  No need to share any personal problems.  We accept most medical insurances.       

Community Therapy

Living on Molokai means we have a kuleana (responsibility) to the community.  What are we doing for this community?  What we may not realize is, doing things for our community is therapeutic.  In this course we learn:

 

  • How to start healing our past

  • How to kala mai (let go of) difficulties, grudges, and move forward

  • How to empower the things that are going well in our life

  • How to identify what we have been lacking in life


When we discover the things we need to be healthy and happy, there is a community that is also likely lacking in this same thing.  By the end of this 4-session program, members work on fulfilling this need they have been lacking for themselves, ohana, and community.

We will have a Polynesian guest speaker to speak on the traditions of this topic.  No need to share your personal problem(s).  We accept most medical insurance

Hunting Therapy

Turn your hunting into therapy.  What you will learn:

​

  • How to quiet the mind to be a quiet hunter

  • How to focus the heart so you’re not distracted

  • How to empower the success of your hunt

  • How to know and trust your personal hunter instincts

  • How to use these same tools to take care of your mental wellbeing


We will have guest speakers to share some of their hunting tips.  No need to share personal problems.  We will meet as a group for a minimum of 4 sessions.  No hunting experience necessary; participants can substitute a camera for a weapon.  We do not provide guided hunts.  Hunting will be your homework.  Participants supply all their own gear.  All participants are required to abide by all hunting laws and regulations.  Most medical insurance accepted.

Fishing Therapy

Have you ever tried pointing at a school of fish in Hawaii?  They will scatter every time.  Fishing requires a quiet heart.  In this program we will be learning:

​

  • How to quiet your heart

  • How to build and trust your fishing instincts

  • How to quiet your mind so you’re not distracted

  • How to reconnect with the water

  • How to empower your success


We will be meeting for minimum of 4 sessions.  Warning, participants will be asked to fish for homework.  Guest speakers will be invited to share traditional Polynesian fishing tips.  All participants provide their own gear and must abide by all fishing laws and regulations.  We accept most medical insurance.

Dream Therapy

In this program we will learn how to use our dreams to take care of our mental health.  Dreams become poetic metaphors for our lives.  We will learn:

​

  • How to increase our ability to remember our dreams

  • How to direct our dreams to a particular problem

  • How to use dreams to gain clarity for our problems

  • How to use dreams for guidance through our problems


We will meet as a group for a minimum of 5 sessions to learn the dream therapy skills.  After this, participants can take these tools into their personal lives or they can continue to meet with other members on their own.  There is no need to share your personal problems.
